EDWARD J. MARTIN
Principal Attorney

On a personal note, Ed is an avid golfer and huge New York Jets, Mets and Knicks fan, which equates to more sports disappointments than most fans should ever have to endure. This dedication and endurance, plus choosing to go to college and law school in the brutal weather of Western New York, has served Ed well in his chosen profession. Ed has built a well-deserved reputation of helping clients overcome various obstacles to accomplish their goals, sometimes against all odds. If only his favorite sports teams could follow suit.

Professionally, Ed prides himself on helping clients achieve their business and estate planning objectives in a personalized, cost-efficient and timely manner. Business owners in particular notice the benefits that Ed’s common sense approach to solving problems and closing deals often delivers. He regularly works on corporate transactions of all shapes and sizes, providing seasoned representation in complex, multi-million dollar mergers and acquisitions, practical advice in small transactions, and cost-effective services in the formation of limited liability companies and other entities for family businesses. These varied and sometimes unique experiences allow Ed to offer the thorough and targeted representation that every client deserves, while placing a priority on the practical needs of each client regardless of the size of the engagement. This can be a challenging task, but as a Jets fan, Ed is ready for anything (especially interceptions).

In working with business owners and other successful individuals, Ed is also heavily involved in the firm's estate planning practice. He frequently meets with clients to ensure that the wealth they have worked their entire lives to accumulate will be passed down to the next generation in the most streamlined, tax-efficient and protected manner possible. Sometimes this is in the form of pre-planning for a business owner selling the family business, in which tax, estate planning and the transaction itself all present enormous opportunities for savings and intergenerational planning. Juggling our firm’s three main practice areas in a business transaction is just another way Ed enjoys staying engaged with his clients. Ed’s comprehensive, yet flexible, estate plans consist of trusts, last wills and testaments, powers of attorney, health care proxies, and living wills, all of which emphasize asset-protection, probate avoidance and income and estate tax reduction opportunities.

As part of his penance for his choice of sports teams, Ed is incredibly generous in devoting time and effort in giving back to the community. Since permanently locating in Saratoga County, Ed has not only joined several community organizations, but has gone on to serve as a board member and an active participant in each charity’s events. When not fighting the good fight around his yard in suburban Halfmoon, Ed can be found at charitable golf tournaments, wine and beer tasting galas (tough duty there) and many other fundraisers benefitting worthy causes in the local community.
